Hilda P. Sturkie
July 10th, 1933 - January 5th, 2022
Hilda P. “Moma” Sturkie, 88, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Born on July 10, 1933 in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Miriam Pound. Hilda loved her family and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed preparing meals and serving them around her dinner table. She had a love of traveling and never missed an opportunity to be on the go, which earned her the nickname “Go-Go Hilda”. She was blessed to have traveled throughout the United States and many foreign countries. Hilda also loved to shop. She was married to E.D. Sturkie for 62 years. Together, they had four children. Her children, grandchildren and great-grands forever held a special place in her heart. Hilda is survived by her daughters, Deborah S. Huff (Ted), Cheryl Boyd (Mike); sons, Wade D. Sturkie, and Daniel “Pete” Sturkie (Sheryl); eight grandchildren: Danielle Sturkie, Bradley Sturkie (Shannon), Joshua Sturkie (Kim), Jessica Autrey, Joseph Boyd (Rene), Teddy Huff (Amanda), and Lindsay Tucker (Josh); great-grandchildren, Cameron Sturkie, Noah Dargan, Abbey Huff, Madison Huff, Jacob Boyd, Makayla Autrey, Aiden Boyd, Emily Brown, Eve Brown, and Riley Tucker; sister, Shirley P. Bennett; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, E.D. Sturkie; and grandson, Jack Smith. The family gives thanks to two of Hilda’s special caregivers, Cissy and Ruby, who tended to Moma in her final years. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC.
