Hilda Violetta Toro

Hilda Violetta Toro, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Healthcare after a lengthy illness. Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico on June 7, 1933, she was educated there and moved to Amsterdam upon her marriage on August 8, 1958. Hilda worked for Fownes Brothers and Industrial Knitting, and lastly at Amsterdam Glove before she retired. She was a parishioner of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and currently St. Mary's parish. Hilda was a member of the Spanish American Club and the Centro Civico Seniors. She will long be remembered as a loving wife, mom and abuela, cooking and caring for her family and her many dear friends. Hilda was predeceased by her parents Antonio and Ana Maria Nazario, her sister Carmen Pacheco and by her husband Israel Toro who died on Dec. 2, 1999. She leaves her children; Belinda Auspelmyer and Israel A. Yvonne Toro all of Amsterdam; Hilda Stephen Quill of Broadalbin and Eileen Kevin Melendez of Morris, NY; grandchildren, Natalie Melendez, Vanessa Curry, Israel A. Toro Jr., Alyssa Auspelmyer, Alexis Toro and Ashley and Michael Quill; great grandchildren Wyatt and Wesley Curry and Violet Melendez; brother Manuel Nazario of Puerto Rico; nieces, nephews and cousins; and sister-in-law Nelida Toro Perez. Services are Saturday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Fr. John M. Medwid, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Montgomery Co. Office for Aging in care of the funeral home office.
