Holly X. Ward
December 24th, 1949 - February 12th, 2018
Holly X. Ward, 68, gained her angel wings February 12, 2018. She was born in Richmond, Kentucky on December 24, 1949 at Patty A. Clay hospital. Mom attended high school at the “old” Henry Clay High School and went on to work and retire from Fayette County Public School System. Mom's love for children was reflected by her many years of volunteering at Mary Todd Elementary, teaching children to read and tutoring after school before becoming a full time employee as a teaching assistant. Mom is survived by her best friend and love of her life, Donald K. Ward; daughters, Dawn (James) Doll, Lexington, Kimberley (Jonathan) McCullough, Wilmore, and Malinda Ward, Lexington; sisters Cealle (Gary) Zimmerman, Lexington and Elizabeth Nutter, Lexington; sister in law, Shirley Singleton, Lexington; 7 grandchildren, Donnie, Megan (Andrew), Chris, Chance, Jacob, Landen, and Delaney; and a very special niece and nephew, Missy Xavier and Patrick Xavier. Mom was “Johnny on the Spot” when it came to a close friend that was expecting a baby. She would always go and get the softest baby yarn and crochet beautiful receiving blankets as a keepsake for the family. She loved knitting and quilting so much. Her other passions included spending time with her grandkids, playing pool, and watching old western movies while sitting at her sewing table in the den. Dad always kept Mom in firewood as she got cold very easily. We can remember days of it being 60 degrees outside and she would have a roaring fire because she was always cold. Nana always overdid on everything. You never had to worry about running out of food at family gatherings. She made sure there was enough to eat for everyone and about 100 extra, just in case. Mom was a true Angel and will be missed so much. A Celebration of Life service will be held 12:30pm, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Clark Funeral Home, 241 Rose Hill, Versailles, KY with burial to follow at Midway Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be James Doll, Jon McCullough, Patrick Xavier, Gary Zimmerman, Jack Jones, and Don Woods. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Hager, Donnie Wilmoth, V, Chance McCullough, Jacob McCullough, and Landen Tabor. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 9:00am until time of service. If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, Mom would be happy with a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
