The full life of Homer Childs came to a peaceful end on July 24, 2011 at the glorious age of 77. Born on July 21, 1934 to Homer S. and Maudie Childs in Macon, Georgia, he married the former Sandra Edwards in 1957. Dedicated to his family, friends and city he became a great strength in the Warner Robins community. He graduated from Lanier High school in 1952. Before continuing his education, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1955. He then continued his education by attending Georgia-Alabama Business School in Macon and graduated in 1957. He returned to school and received a BBA Degree from Georgia College in 1979. Homer joined the firm of Walker & Meadors, CPAs in 1956 as manager in their Warner Robins office. He became a partner in 1974 and continued the firm until 1986 at which time the partnership was dissolved and the firm became Homer N. Childs, Certified Public Accountant. He became a partner at Nichols Cauley and Associates in 2006. He was a member of numerous civic, fraternal and business organizations including the American Institute of CPA’s, Georgia Society of CPA’s, Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs Committee, Museum of Aviation Foundation, Air Force Association, Warner Robins Industry Now Group, Warner Robins Rotary Club, Warner Robins Optimist Club, 21st Century Partnership, Northside High School Booster Club, and Northside High School Band Boosters. In these many organizations he served as president, chairman, or treasurer. He volunteered to read to students at Centerville Elementary School. Homer was dedicated to the First United Methodist Church serving as head usher. He was an avid sports fan. He was an arm chair coach for the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Georgia Bulldogs and a proud supporter of the Northside Eagles. Mr. Childs will be remembered by family and friends as the epitome of a southern gentleman who loved his church, country and family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, actually too many to list. He had a quick smile and an outgoing personality. He was an honorable man who wasn’t afraid to stand up for what was right and did things his way. Mr. Childs was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Donald Childs and Charles Childs. Survivors other than his wife Sandra are children Arlene Grayson and husband Lee of Warner Robins, Lisa Brannen and husband Harry of Canton, GA, Jennifer Bourgeois and husband Al of Jacksonville, FL, Jonathan Childs and wife Heather of Atlanta, grandchildren Harry Brannen, Jr, Natalie Brannen, Jenna Brannen, David Grayson, sister-in-law Barbara Childs of Macon, nieces Lisa Jane Childs, Carletta Mathews and their children. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with entombment in the Parkway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Dr. Jimmy Asbell and Rev. Missy Blumenthal will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church @ 205 N. Davis Dr., Warner Robins, GA, 31093 or to the Museum of Aviation Foundation @ P.O. Box 2469, Warner Robins, GA, 31099, in memory of Mr. Childs. Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
