Howard Bruderer

April 5th, 1958 - January 30th, 2013

Howard lost his battle with brain cancer on Wednesday, January 30 in Caldwell, Idaho. Howard is survived by Fay, his wife of 56 years, and four children Julie (Kelley) Smith, Cherie Bruderer, Debora Uhl and Glen (Kathi) Bruderer. He has 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. As one of fifteen children, he is survived by numerous brothers, sisters, their spouses and families. He is a military veteran who served in the Navy and loved his country and freedoms. Having his family by his side was important to him. His parents, Conrad and Anna Bruderer, began a tradition of family reunions more than 50 years ago. Each year their large family would gather near their home at Logan Canyon, and this began a gathering that continues today, with a group of more than 100 people coming from across the country. Howard loved his family and the outdoors. He spent hundreds of hours each year either on a river or on a mountain. Each June you could find him on the Salmon River near Riggins waiting for the annual run of Chinook salmon. Many of his brothers and family would join him on the river. It was like a second family reunion. Everybody on the river knew Howard and he lived to share his knowledge of the river and salmon fishing with anyone who would listen, soon becoming part of his extended family, like it or not. He spent most of his time in the fall at his favorite hunting spot, Lost Valley Reservoir. His family would join him on many of his excursions and he loved to hike and pursue his passion of hunting deer and elk, and passed his passion on to his family. He also loved to dance, and taught Arthur Murray ballroom dancing for many years. He taught the youth groups at church and helped the elderly remain active through dancing. He was always eager to teach whoever was willing to learn. This manifested itself throughout his battle with cancer, as he taught his speech therapist dance steps while she would help him with his speaking. A celebration of his life will be held at the LDS 15th Ward Chapel, 11792 Linden Road in Caldwell. The service will be Wednesday, February 6th at 11 a.m. Service Information

My heart is broken, as I know your's is as well. I have many great memories of uncle Howard, and the family trips we took growing up. The summer I stayed with you & helped Cheri landscape the yard with a tractor & grate, that we loaded with rocks & sat on to level the ground. We were covered in dirt from head to toe. Camping & fishing the Blackfoot resivor, exploring Cinder & Bird Island, with the Batman boat. The trip to the Washington Coast deep sea fishing when we left Donna at the gas station, freakin out mom. After traveling all day, we found a place to camp, sunrise dad is outside wondering what that terrible smell was, we had camped in a dumping site for fishguts. We stayed in paying campsites the remaining trip. We fished the Yankee Fork, Sumbeam dam. Salmon fishing Riggins, "Howards rock", you'd give up your rock, just to see us catch a fish. One time, Greg & I had stopped in Kammie to fuel up on the way home from salmon fishing, as I walked past this row of slot machines, who's sitting there, uncle Howard & aunt Fay, we laughed about running into family out in the middle of now where. Uncle Howard cohearsed us into calling into work, so we could stay & fish with him. It wasn't the first time a Bruderer has lost a job due to fishing. HAHA. He always had the best stories, and at times, reminded me of Fred Flinstone, when he did his, YABBA DABBA DO. Always made the best out of a bad situation. Using a string to run the windshield wipers, during a downpour, aunt Fay pulling on one side, uncle Howard pulling the other. Redfish lake was a favorite place of your's and mine, and one your family continues to enjoy today. May these memories remain close to our hearts. Love you uncle Howard and aunt Fay. Sam Huskey

I have enjoyed all the family reunions with all of my Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins. My Uncle Howard was a tender a sweet man, and a man of many talents. I will always cherish my "Waltz" with him at our reunion in August of 2011. He is truly "Dancing with the Stars" now, and may he dance throughout all eternity! Tammy (Delbert's Daughter)

Uncle Howard & Family, Our family would like to express our deepest sorrows and sympathy to your family thru this time. I always remembered Uncle Howard, as a man who loved his family and loved spending time sharing with them the things that he loved. He will be forever remembered as one of the Bruderer brothers, and an icon of one of the heads of the Bruderer clan. We will miss you uncle Howard and I am happy you are now with your family that have passed. Thank you for the great times in Jackpot and once or twice on the bridge in Orofino with Victor. I am so sad to hear about the passing of this good man. I know Howard through his son Glen who I've worked with at the newspaper for many years. It was always obvious to me how much Glen loved his dad and the rest of his family as well. We've celebrated with Glen, the many achievements Howard made in spite of the intense health challenges he's faced over the years. And we've worried with him when things got harder. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Bobbi and I are truly saddened to hear of Uncle Howard's passing. However, we're sure he's now at peace and enjoying being reunited with all the Bruderers that have gone before. I was lost to the Family for many years, and only got to know Uncle Howard very briefly. But in that time, I found him to be a warm, generous, and happy person. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends. Our prayers are with Fay and all the Family and friends who knew and loved Uncle Howard. Rest in everlasting Peace, Uncle Howard.

My sympathy goes out to the Bruderer family. I didn't know him well but I do remember our fun trip to Hawaii. God bless you at this time. It's always hard to lose a loved one. But God is always near.
