Hugh M. Glass, 89 years old of Magalia, passed away on August 5, 2010 at Enloe Medical Center in Chico. Hugh was born April 21, 1921 to Ethel and Hugh Glass in Santa Rosa, along with his younger brother, Bill. He grew up in Berkeley and attended Berkeley High School. He volunteered for the Army Signal Corps in 1941, served his country in Australia and New Guinea, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He went to work for Hales Department Store in Oakland where he met and married his wife, Ida M. Vallerga on October 15, 1950. In 1976, they moved to Magalia where he went to work for K-mart in Chico until he retired at the age of 65. Hugh enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, watching sports and spending time with his family. He was a member of Paradise Elks Lodge, SIRS, Paradise Moose Lodge, Order of Sons of Italy in America Paradiso Lodge in Paradise and the Paradise Men's Garden Club. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to those who knew him well. Hugh will be remembered with a lot of love and fondness as a good man with his smile, gentle nature and somewhat dry sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Ida; sons, Mike (Mimi) and Jeff (Julie); daughter, Karen (Bill); grandchildren, Jennifer and fiance' Steve, Brandon and fiance' Rachel, Christopher, Devin and Catherine; along with great-grandson, Rowan and cousins. Lynne and Julie. He is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Ethel, uncle John, aunt Berniece, and brother, Bill. A private funeral service for family and closest friends were held and Hugh was laid to rest at Glen Oaks Memorial Park's Veteran section in Chico. A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held for his many friends at the Paradise Elks Lodge BPOE #2026 on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Eat, Drink and Laugh - We love you, Dad.
