Hugh Jack Hurd
May 24th, 1931 - February 1st, 2014
Kingsport - Hugh Jack Hurd, 82, of Kingsport, peacefully passed into heavenly rest on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Born in Kyles Ford (Hancock County), Tennessee, Mr. Hurd grew up in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and moved to Whitmire, South Carolina where as a young man he worked in the textile industry. He was born May 24, 1931, to the late Doyle D. Hurd and Ethel Gilliam Hurd. Mr. Hurd enjoyed his family and friends. He also loved to work with his hands and spent most of his life working in the electronics business as a technician, a fabricator and a manufacturer of electronic devices. He retired from his self-owned business Electronic Devices after developing symptoms of Alzheimer's. His hobbies were drawing, reading and walking. He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Adaline H. Surrett. Surviving are the mother of his children Frances King Hurd; his children: Mary Ethel Hurd Beuris and husband, Bobby of Kingsport; Drendall Hurd and wife, Glenda of Kingsport and Jack Hurd and wife, Karen of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren: Adrian Fortenberry and husband Scott of Nashville, TN; Rosanna Hildreth and husband Jesse of London, England; Megan Land and husband Matt of Kingsport; Alan Beuris and his fiancée Stephanie Price of Kingsport; his great grandchildren: Lily Hildreth and Carsten Land; his brother Frank Hurd and wife Edna of Kingsport and his niece Janeen Ward and husband, Loda of Kingsport. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 11 am to 1 pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN or at the residence anytime. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. Music will be provided by Jeff McReynolds. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, TN. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family of Mr. Hurd would like to thank the staff of Graystone Healthcare in Blountville, TN for the care that was given to him during the months that he has resided on the 2nd floor of the healthcare facility.
