Musgrove Family Mortuary
Hugo Christensen
January 2nd, 2015
Hugo Christensen Hugo Moller Christensen passed away December 9, 2015, peacefully with his family by his side, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born October 15, 1921 in Kolding, Denmark. He learned cabinetmaking and carpentry in a trade school/apprenticeship in Denmark. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and continued corresponding with a young Danish lady by the name of Betty K. Melvej. They were married November 2, 1951 in Edmonton, Alberta. Hugo worked for many years in Edmonton, and moved to Eugene in May 1961 and worked until his retirement as a cabinetmaker and contractor. Huge loved his work, he loved building, designing, problem solving, & inventing! Upon retirement, he and Betty designed and built their own home in Florence, and lived there for many years. Hugo loved camping, and for a time was obsessed (addicted he would say) with fishing. But his real passion was chess, which he played right up to the end. He took great delight in “beating up” his kids, the Marist Chess Club, or whoever else, in a well thought-out strategic game of chess! Hugo and Betty were wonderful parents and raised five terrific kids! Anne & her husband, Rod Metzger of Eugene, John Christensen & his wife, Nancy Bravo of Eugene, Alan & his wife, LuAnne Christensen of Springfield, Anita & her husband, Ken West of Baker City, and Jerry Christensen of Bend. They were survived by 9 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Chris & Christa Christensen, of Eugene, who took him into their home & cared for him as he struggled with Parkinson’s disease. Hugo was in the care of River Run Place Assisted Living at the time of his death. He was dearly loved by the staff, and they took wonderful care of him! He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, his Danish Brotherhood, and his caregivers. A memorial service will be held January 2, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Sons of Norway Lodge at 710 McKinley in Eugene. Instead of flowers, Hugo would have liked contributions to be made to: The Michael J Fox Foundation PO Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD. 21741-5014 (michaeljfox.org) Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary. Please access the obituary and you are invited to sign the guestbook at musgroves.com
