Hyla "Ellis" Marie Clapier
August 28th, 1932 - June 5th, 2016
Hyla Marie Ellis Clapier, 83, passed away Sunday June 5, 2016 in Meridian, Idaho. Hyla was born August 28, 1932 in Kirwin, Kansas. Funeral services will be held Friday June 10th at 11am at the LDS Chapel located at 12040 W. Amity Rd, Boise, Idaho. Graveside service will be directly following the funeral at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery. A public viewing will be held Thursday June 9th from 5-8pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel located at 624 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, Idaho. Hyla was the third of six children born to Lillian Lydia Fuller and George A. Ellis. The family moved to the Marsing-Homedale area when Hyla was four where her father farmed. She graduated from Marsing high school 1950 and married “Rip” Dwaine David Clapier August 28th 1950, one day before she turned 18. Their first child was born a little over a year later in 1951. They resided in Marsing until 1956 when they moved Rip's TV and appliance business to Caldwell. They had 3 children at this time. In Caldwell, Hyla was a homemaker and also spent time in a church girls’ camp program where she influenced many young women. Two children graduated from Caldwell High School. In 1972, they moved the family to Sand Hollow, Idaho where they operated a small farm. Ann, their last child, was born while living here in 1978. By 1986 five children had graduated from New Plymouth High School and in 1987 Hyla and Rip moved to the Magic Valley living in Gooding, Dietrich, and finally Hagerman. Hyla spent many hours gardening and caring for her mother and sister Ramona. Their last child graduated from Dietrich High School in 1996. Hyla & Rip spent their remaining 17 years together in the Hagerman Valley until Rip passed away in 2012. Hyla also spent much time gardening here and was known to grow one too many tomato plants, which she willingly shared with family and friends. Hyla spent her last three years in Assisted Living in Meridian, Idaho. Wherever Hyla went she always had a garden, and yes, she had tomato plants in Meridian too. Hyla is preceded in death by her husband “Rip” Dwaine David Clapier, her father George A. Ellis and mother Lillian Lydia Fuller, 2 sisters Cherrylinn Hartman and Ramona Curt, and one daughter-in-law Jacquelynn Blake Clapier. She is survived by 2 sisters Georgia Lee Caudill (Nampa) and Francis Bay (Birch Tree, MO), and one brother Dale Ellis (Portland, OR.) She is also survived by all of her 8 children- Mike (Linda) of Salt Lake City, UT, Sue (Brion) Showalter of Marsing, ID, Tony of Rupert, ID, Doug (Pam) of Midvale, Idaho, Bruce of Meridian, ID, Lisa Clapier of California, Jon (Sara) of Caldwell, ID, and Ann (Troy) Bingham of Boise, ID. Together Hyla and Rip have quite the large family with over 65 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and even a few great-great-grandchildren.
