Hyman J Schirtzer

Hyman J. Schirtzer passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Hy was born in New York City on May 18, 1931, the 10th of 11 children of parents who emigrated to the United States from Germany and Austria. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Hy put himself through college at City College of New York, earning an associates degree in Engineering. Hy then spent the next five decades as a Reliability Engineer primarily in the aerospace and defense industries where he worked on a number of major projects, including the Saturn 5 Rocket that put men on the moon. Hy was very active throughout his life, and enjoyed music and dancing, good food and wine, the arts, travel, keeping track of the Stock Market, and a good glass of Johnnie Walker Black. He was a beloved father to his two sons from his first marriage, Richard and Ronald, a devoted step-father to Jonathan, the son of his second wife, Elaine, with whom he moved to Sarasota in 1992, and a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather to his 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Hy met his third wife Hollace (“Holly”) in 2018 after Elaine passed away, and they married on his 90th birthday. Hy and Holly were members of Temple Sinai where they attended weekly services and where Hy was active in the men’s club. Holly was devoted to Hy, overseeing his healthcare during his final years, and was by his side when he passed away. Hy is survived by his wife, Holly, his brother Murray Schirtzer, his son Richard Schirtzer and his wife Diane, his son Ronald Schirtzer and his wife Marshall, his step-son Jonathan Baltimore and his partner Krystyna, and his nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
