I. "June" Edwin Vassar

April 26th, 1921 - August 12th, 2012

Ira Edwin Vassar Junior "June", 91, died Sunday, August 12, 2012, at home of natural causes. June was born to Mary and Ira Vassar Sr. on April 22, 1921, in Caldwell Idaho. He attended school at Marble Front Grade School and Caldwell High. On January 22, 1944 he was wed to his High School Sweetheart Doris V. Barney. They shared a life of friendship, working and raising their three children, Rosemary, Christine and Scott. June was a lifelong farmer and worked the land he loved. In his early years he would start, break and train horses. June was able to work with all types of horses; he was one of the last people in the valley to work the fields with draft horses. June never really retired from life. He just loved to work the farm. June owned and operated Vassar Trucking for 30 years, before passing the business to Scott. June, Doris and Scott created Vassar trucking in the mid-70's to provide custom hauling for people in the valley and strived to give the best service with fairness and honesty. He was the pillar of his family. He could explain community history because of his unusually smart mind and ability to remember names, details and facts. He was ever ready to deliver a story tempered by wit and ceaseless facts, always with a laugh and allegorical undertone. He was the epitome of compassion with his ailing wife as she battled through 15 years of sickness delivering care and love until she passed in 2003. June loved the Lord and knew that his hope was in heaven and we are rejoicing that he is there now. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Vassar, parents, and Brother Sam and survived by brother ,Dr. Don Vassar. June’s spirit, stories, and memories will endure through his surviving children, Rosemary and Dave Weaver, Christine Vassar, and Scott Vassar, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A viewing will be from 5:00 until 8:00PM on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A Funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, August 20, 2012, also at Flahiff Funeral Chapel. Caldwell. Interment will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Dear Rosemary and family, I remember your parents with fond memories when we were in school at Marble Front. My folks both died in 2010. I still feel their presence each day. May God bless all your family and may you, too, feel your dad and mom with you. We know they are with God. With fond memories and prayers, Linda Shaw Draney

George Eliot wrote that "Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them." Your dad should be remembered for a long time. Walk with Grace, and be with the Lord.
