Ida Madeline Nitka

" Ida Nitka, 83, of Barney Road in Holland, died Monday in Worcester Medical Center. Born in Long Island, NY May 5, 1919, she lived for many years in Stafford, CT before moving to Holland 56 years ago. She was a 60 year communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Brimfield and a member of its Catholic Women’s Club. She spent many years as a nurse’s aide at Johnson Memorial Hospital, both before, during and after WWII. She also worked at Horn of Plenty at Old Sturbridge Village for many years. Ida also crocheted many afghans and doilies for family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Michael Nitka, a son Joseph T. and a daughter Elaine Lengowski, both of Holland. Ida also leaves a brother Henry Satkowski of the Hydeville section of Stafford , CT and a sister Helen Buczkowski of Hazardville,CT, as well as 5 grandchildren, Mark, Michael and Laura Lengowski, Janice Sosik, Kelly Lyder and Andrew Nitka. Her great granchildren are Ella and Anna Sosik. Mrs. Nitka was predeceased by a brother Joseph and a sister Sophia Hanic who lived in Stafford Springs, CT. Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 10:00 in St. Christopher’s Church. Burial is in Holland Cemetery. Calling hours are Wed. from 2:00—4:00 & 7:00—9:00 p.m. Please make donations in her memory to St. Christopher’s Church, Box 387, Brimfield, MA 01010. "
