Inez Marie Albanese Rooney

Inez Marie Albanese Rooney passed away with her family by her side at Ellis hospital after being stricken on May 21st. 2017. She was born on April 30th 1928 in Gloversville, NY and had recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Inez was the 11th of fifteen children born to Pasquale and Giovanna Doganieri Albanese who predeceased her. In 1954 she traveled cross country to California to marry David Rooney, who was serving in the marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendelton, Oceanside CA. Although she lived most of her life in Gloversville, except for the two years in California, she spent many memorable summers in New Jersey with her aunt, Giagonda Doganieri Colontuono, as a young woman. Nothing meant more to her than her family (immediate and extended), it defined her as a person. Inez was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved hosting family gatherings at her home, where she turned every Sunday into a holiday. Her door was always open and she was so happy to see any member of her family walk through the door, day or night. She is survived by her dedicated husband of 63 years, David Rooney. Sons; Daniel (Lori), and Michael Rooney; Daughters, Linda Rooney (Dana Rakas), and LIsa Sohl (Mark) and Son in law, William Stock. Grandchildren; Danielle Rooney (Mathew Zink), Michael Rooney, William Stock (Melissa), Eric Stock, Jenna Knecht (Brian), Daniel Rooney (Ashley Horton), Eliott Rooney (MIchael Chase), and Rudy Sohl (Taylor Baker). Great grandchildren; Noah Stock, Ethan Stock, Patrick Zink, and Brian Knecht. She is also survived by her sister Norma Albanese Burrell, of Lake Worth FL, and brother Carl Albanese (Mary) of West Palm Beach, FL. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Inez was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Rooney Stock, who passed away on March 9th, 2017. As well as her brothers; Anthony, Joseph, Virgil, William (deceased 1911), William, Attilio "Till", Mario, James, Rudolph, and Louis "Toddy" Albanese, and sisters: Olga Albanese and Lillian Albanese Doremus. Calling hours for Inez which family and friends are invited to attend will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 5pm until 8pm at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10am at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville, with Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating.
