Irene (Westbrook) Dugger Beard, 95, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Gateway Gardens in Eugene. Irene was a blessing to all who knew her. For more than 20 years she was a first grade teacher in the Bethel School District. For many years she worked with Child Evangelism, Inc. She was a member of the choir at the First Baptist Church of Eugene and a volunteer at the House of International Students at the University of Oregon. Irene and her husband of 51 years, Joe Dugger, were active members of the Berean Sunday School class at First Baptist under the tutelage of popular Bible teacher Fred Beard. Years after Joe's death in 1988, Irene and Fred were wed. They enjoyed several years together until Fred's death in 2002. Irene is survived by two sons, LTC Chester Westbrook Dugger, Ed. D. US Army (Retired) and CPT. Joe Marvin Dugger, D.M.D., US Navy. She is also survived by two grandsons, two granddaughters and five great grandchildren. Irene faithfully served her family, her community and her God. She was an inspiration and a testament to many and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Lane Memorial Funeral Home at 5300 West 11th Avenue, Eugene, OR.
