Irene M. Markovich

MARKOVICH, Irene On February 9, 2017, Irene Markovich, 92, peacefully passed away at A Desert Villita Assisted Living Home, in Tucson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, George, who died in 2009. For 23 years, George, along with Irene, was a co-owner with business partner, Merrill Broad, of the Shelter Cocktail Lounge. Born March 30, 1924 in South Fork, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Smerk) Terek. Irene and her family moved to Tucson 56 years ago. For over 40 years, Irene was employed as a server and caterer in both the Johnstown and Tucson areas. Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, John Terek (and his wife, Maxine); Michael Terek (and his wives, Joan and Dianne), and Edward Terek; her sisters, Helen McCall (and husband, Patrick); and Josephine Mino (and husband, John); brother-in-law, Thomas Markovich; sisters-in-law, Rose Buchan (and husband, Louis), and Ann Strank (and husband, Peter). Irene's survivors include her beloved son, John Markovich and his wife, Janette; her sisters-in-law Camilla Terek (South Fork, PA) and Dorothy Markovich (Johnstown, PA); and her numerous nieces and nephews with whom she shared many good times on both the east and west coasts. She was very close to her goddaughter and niece, Mary Mino Ph.D. (State College, PA) who will deliver the eulogy. Friends will be received Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 East Broadway Blvd., with Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered Friday, February 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Tucson, with interment following at Holy Hope Cemetery. The family has requested that all donations in Irene's memory be made to the charity of one's choice.
