Stephens, Irene A., 104, one of St. Petersburg?s oldest citizens, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. Mrs. Stephens was born of Greek parents in 1899 in Krini, Smyrna, Asia Minor, now known as Cesme, Asia Minor. Upon her marriage in 1921 to Stephanos Stephanides, she immigrated to the United States. After entering through Ellis Island, NY, the couple settled in Brooklyn, NY and raised two daughters. In 1971, Mrs. Stephens moved to St. Petersburg. She was an active member of St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church and served as a member of the church?s Philoptochos Society. She was a member of the Eastern Star. An inspiration to all in her family, she was known for her zest for life and sense of humor. She is survived by her two daughters, Judge Helen S. Hansel of St. Petersburg and Cleopatra Stephens Canaris of Montclair, NJ, six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. The family suggests donations to St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church.
