Isidro ' Tom' Tomas Griego

Isidro Tomas (†œTom†�) Griego Tom was born on October 29, 1947 and passed away on May 2, 2020 at his home in Arvada, Colorado. Tom and his brothers, Narciso and Joe, and sister Beatrice were born and raised in Gallup, New Mexico. As a child Tom overcame childhood arthritis to became a star basketball player at Gallup High. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany before being honorably discharged. Tom returned to Gallup and began working as a fireman for the City of Gallup before meeting the love of his life, Marilou McCarthy. Tom and Marilou married and raised their son Patrik and daughter Katharine, who was his best friend. Tom was a dedicated and loving father. Tom moved to Marilou†™s hometown of Arvada, Colorado to create a better life for his family. Once in Colorado, Tom attended Metropolitan State College where he obtained a bachelor degree in secondary education. Tom worked for twenty plus years as a beloved Industrial Arts teacher and basketball/wrestling coach at Aurora †˜s South Middle school where he was affectionately known as Mr. G. Tom was passionate about education and the potential it offered. He went on to obtain his master†™s degree In school administration at UNC Greeley and worked as an administrator at Hodgkins Middle School and Westminster High School before retiring. Although retired from public education, Tom never stopped working. He worked with Volunteers of America Handyman Program retrofitting homes for the disabled. And he was extremely active in the Jefferson County and Colorado Democratic Latino Initiatives helping to elect countless community leaders. Tom was a true renaissance man who never stopped learning and growing. He could build and fix anything and had a wicked sense of humor. He took care of Marilou†™s mother Maxine and kept her in stitches with constant banter. She loved him dearly. He will be missed so much by Marilou and his surviving family and friends.
