Israel Izzy Matos Sr., 52, of Salinas, died Friday, July 23, 2010. He was born Sept. 4, 1957, in New York City, New York. Israel Izzy Matos Sr. could have been otherwise known as "Mayor of Salinas." He brought laughter and joy to many. Israel valued his family, was a man of his word, and kept his New York/Puerto Rican roots deep. No difficult situation life could throw at him would deter Izzy from moving forward and making things happen. Among other things, Israel was a skilled mechanic, DJ, singer, music producer, and excelled at making lasagna. Most importantly, Israel knew and loved the Lord. What everyone will miss most about him is his smile and comedic outlook on life. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Department of Veteran Affairs, United States Bowling Congress. He is survived by Son, Israel Izzy Matos Jr.; daughter, Jamie Justina Matos; granddaughter, Julie Devona; father, Emilio Matos; mother, Justina Ortolaza; brothers, Samuel Leon Matos Sr. and Josue Matos Sr.; and sisters, Naomi Matos and Abigail Matos. Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
