Online Obituaries for Lexington, Frankfort, and Versailles KY Versailles J.C. Moraja, 77, passed away Thursday April 6, 2017 at his home with his children beside him. He was born in Springfield, Kentucky on January 14, 1940 to the late Cecil and Harriett Montgomery Moraja. J.C. graduated from St. Joe Prep in Bardstown, KY and was recruited by Bear Bryant to play football for the University of Kentucky. He received an athletic scholarship to the University of Kentucky and played football under Coach Blanton Collier. He then moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he served active duty for the United States Army. After 28 year of service the Army Reserves, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In addition to his military service, JC began his professional career in 1965 with General Electric in Louisville, KY and then moved to Kentucky Utilities in 1971. In 1973, J.C. began a 32 year career with the United Bank and Trust Company, retiring as President and CEO in 2005. He was a devoted parishioner to St. Leos Roman Catholic Church in Versailles, KY, helping to start the local Knights of Columbus organization. He was an active member in the Woodford Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Authority. He co-led the effort in developing the Woodford County Football Stadium, which was later dedicated in memory of his late wife, Barbara Moraja. JC was a passionate supporter of UK athletics, but more importantly he was an AVID University of Kentucky football fan! Survivors include his children, daughter, Linda Moraja Nash (Chuck), Deanne Powers (John), MO, Mike Moraja (Melissa),NC, brothers, Cecil Moraja (Jane), FL, Dick Moraja (Betty), Lebanon, KY. Grandchildren: Nicholas Nash, Katye Laine Nash, Jake Moraja, Joshua Moraja, Madison Moraja, Isabella Moraja, Jack Powers, A.J. Powers, William Powers, Nephews: Richard Moraja (Pam), Bill Moraja (Becky), niece, Laura Moraja. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Moraja. A mass of Christian burial will be Monday April 10, 2017, 11 AM, at St. Leo Catholic Church led by Father. Danny Schwendeman. Burial will follow in Rose Crest Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Ben Crain, Donald Carson, Ralph Combs, Jim Rouse, Bill Ahern, Bill Frye, John Powers and Chuck Nash. Honorary bearers are Joe Brandel, Bob Clemens, Jim Hardin, Bill Curd, Walter Fister, Howard Smith, Doug OBrien and Jerry Muniz. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday April 9th, from 3 until 6 PM at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for his granddaughter, Madison Moraja.
