John Darvill (better known as Jack), a wonderful husband, father, friend, leader, mentor, musician and educator passed away peacefully in his sleep at home from congestive heart failure at the age of 86 on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 4:40 am. He will be greatly missed, but he left behind a legacy of humor, stories, music, accomplishments and an unparalleled love for his beautiful wife of 63 years and best friend, Marian Patricia Darvill (née McComb). His ohana includes son, Tom Darvill (Jackie), daughter Nancy Lee (Michael), daughter Kathy Smith (Barry), as well as four wonderful grandsons Jon Darvill (Carsie), Alex Lee, Jameson Lee and Will Darvill. He was very proud of the 25 years he served at the Kamehameha Schools and all of the students, faculty, parents and alumni he was privileged to know. Please take a moment today to remember him and smile when you think of your own personal favorite "Jack Darvill" encounter. He was one of a kind. Always a gentleman. Thoughtful, funny, creative and truly a class act. Here's to you, Dad. A hui hou. Malama pono. We love you dearly and keep you in our hearts always.

Bob and June Wright, our neighbors who do not have a computer, asked me to convey their condolences to Marian and the rest of Jack's family. June spotted the obituary for "Darvill, Arthur" in the Herald-Tribune and guessed that Jack was somehow hidden behind that pseudonym. June had not seen the earlier posting on the Bay Village bulletin board. Bay Village residents remember and miss Jack. Love, -Herman-

Aloha e Marian, This is Charmain Wong from Kamehameha. I wanted to write and let you know how sorry I was when I read about Jack’s passing. But, I had a smile on my face watching his video…what an amazing man! Although I’m sure you miss Jack, I do hope you are well. I’m still here at Kamehameha—43 years! I’ve enjoyed my work in the boarding program. Bruce and I have 3 married children (all KS grads) who were raised on the hill and have done well—an engineer, an attorney and a health physicist. Also have 4 grandchildren. As you can imagine there have been many changes but most are for the good but I do plan on retiring at the end of the next school year. I’ve had 3 headmasters—Jack, Mike Chun, and Earl Kim (we are in the process of hiring a new headmaster) and 3 principals—Tony Ramos, Julian Ako and currently Sheena Alaiasa. I saw Bob and Nani Springer last year when Bob retired from Island School on Kaua`i. It was nice seeing them both. Marian, malama pono and do know Bruce and I will always remember how kind and thoughtful you both were and making us feel welcomed. Best wishes. My sincere condolences to the Davil Ohana. Many of the most memorable years of my life were spent living just a few steps from your home on the Kamehameha schools campus in Lunalilo dorm. I remember Mr. Darvil as a real gentleman and a true leader and president of the schools. In my forty years as a teacher and dorm counselor I always admired Mr. Darvel for his sense of humor, good nature, and as outstanding educator and leader. He touched and guided the lives of many people in Hawaii. I appreciated his friendship and mentoring. Aloha, Bob & Ann Horwath
