Jack L. Featheringill

December 4th, 1931 - July 3rd, 2013

Featheringill, Jack 81 Dec. 04, 1931 July 03, 2013 At 8:28 p.m. on July 3, 2013, our beloved friend, mentor, director, PSU Professor Emeritus and Drammy committee member Jack Featheringill passed away peacefully from complications that developed after open heart surgery on Tuesday, July 2. Prior to heading into surgery, he was his usual cheerful, bright, passionate, loving self, always playing the positive. He left this world surrounded by close friends who showered him with love and held him in the light. He was an inspiration to several generations of Portland actors and crew, and a role model in living life to the fullest. He will also be remembered for his work as a stage manager, casting director and dancer, on Broadway and elsewhere, in the 50s and 60s, with the stage name of Jack Leigh. In addition, since 2001, Jack underwrote the Featheringill Theatre and Drama Scholarship at Indiana University, his Alma Mater. He worked tirelessly here in Portland as an advocate for CASA (a nonprofit network supporting and promoting court appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children), volunteered as an ombudsman for eldercare and on a drug and alcohol abuse hotline. Words are inadequate to describe his contribution; he enhanced the lives of so many. A Celebration of Life is being planned for Jack in mid-August. Details of time and place will be provided in timely fashion to friends, family and the community at large via electronic media and a variety of social network sites. Please, in lieu of flowers, make donations to CASA in Jack's name, at: casahelpskids.org. Marvelous, irreplaceable Jack: you will be sorely missed, but your legacy is enormous.

Precious Jack - Your many gifts (humor, insight & wisdom, intellect & vast experiences, to name only a few), are sorely missed. However, you, dear man, are most missed for the loving and respectful reverence you conveyed to all of us, every day, in every situation. God speed.

Your work as a CASA was examplary and life-changing for the children you worked with. I wish I had had a chance to know you better, but I'm grateful for the time we worked together. You will be missed.
