Jack Rhodes Gilmore
June 28th, 1948 - October 27th, 2019
Jack Rhodes Gilmore of Monroe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love, gratitude and admiration of family and friends on October 27th, 2019. Jack was born in Conway, SC and moved to Fayetteville in 1962. He graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1966. He completed his first year of college and then volunteered for the draft, entering the US Army in 1968. Jack was a crew member of the 179th Assault Helicopter Company in Pleiku, Vietnam. Jack was a proud veteran and maintained friends with many of his crew members for his entire life. He was honorably discharged in 1969 and began working full time while attending college to complete his degree. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from UNC Charlotte and became a licensed professional engineer. His working career was that of a mechanical engineer until retirement in 2018. Again, he made many friends through work who also became friends for life. His greatest enjoyment in retirement was being able to spend more time with his grandson, Jackson. Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years Carolyn, son Michael and grandson Jackson of Charlotte. Other surviving family members include brother Phillip (Fayetteville), sister Debra (Fuquay-Varina), brother David (Vass), brother Gene (Los Angeles), sister Frannie (Kansas) and sister Annie (Kansas).
