Jack Merlyn Modig

October 23rd, 1959 - March 3rd, 2024

“All gave some, Some gave all” - William Osterkamp

Jack Modig was born October 23, 1959, in Beeville TX while his Father, John Modig, served in the Navy and his mother, Judith (Eckert Modig Hoffman Lorraine), worked diligently at home; mothering Jack and his older brother, Robert "Bob" Modig.  In 1960, the four of them returned to Denver, Colo.

In 1961, the Modig Family welcomed a sister named Jean (Modig O'Connor Jones), and they moved into the Park Hill Neighborhood of Denver.  From midyear of 1971 until June of 1977, they lived in Brighton, Colorado where Jack attended Vikan Jr. High and Brighton High Schools. While in Brighton, Jack was very active in many interests. Among them, includes: Wrestling, Art and the Masonic Chapter of Demolay. Following his graduation, he continued his education at Rangley College continuing his Wrestling on their team.

Jack left Rangley College and worked numerous jobs in Denver, and the Metro Region, within the construction industry and working security at various social establishments. He always had a spirit to protect his friends, family and his country. Eventually, this patriotic young man, enrolled and served in the Army beginning in March of 1985 and where he was stationed in Germany in the Special Services Department. His final assignment was out of Seattle, Wash where he completed his service. Just days from his official discharge, he received injuries from being struck by an automobile, while returning to the barracks on his custom Harley Davidson. The accident caused him physical injuries, thus receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in March of 1989.

After his recovery and discharge, Jack returned to Denver, Colo to continue his education, graduating from Arapahoe Community College with a Bachelors Degree.  But, following the injuries from the accident impact, Jack struggled and became even more protective of the things that he loved, his patriotism grew even stronger, his dedication even more focused over the following years; something that he never lost.

Over the passed 24 years, Jack received a personal and focused care toward his struggles, imposed by the accident, and other factors. In 2016, Jack received approval to join the Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons in Aurora, Colo where he was fortunate to be surrounded by a caring staff who truly loved and enjoyed his funny, kind, compassionate, generous nature. There he received love and care from his mother, father, brother, sister, and extended family; including some of his life long, high school friends. The care he was blessed to receive, is one of many reasons he kept his positive attitude and optimism through these challenging years. Even the staff, his therapists, and his physicians of VCLCF were saddened by his passing. Each of them gave Jack and his visiting guests the highest possible care over these last years. He never doubted that he was safe and his family never doubted that he was well cared for.

Jack never complained and was always grateful for what he had, the laughter people shared and the love from so many who were continually a part of his life. He was always a strong, yet tender hearted soul, ever patriotic; loved by his dedicated parents, family and friends. This is something he never doubted. Jack was touched many lives, and reached out to touch many, many lives over his lifetime.
