Jack J. Schofield
February 7th, 1921 - December 17th, 2016
Jack J. Schofield, 95, of South Pasadena, passed away December 17, 2016. Born in Millvale, PA, he graduated from Shaler High School, and attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon University) in Pittsburgh until enlisting to fight in WWII. He was an accomplished Army Air Corps Squadron Navigator, serving in the 380th Bomb Group, flying on B-24 Liberator bombers in the South Pacific. He received 18 military decorations from the United States, Philippines and Australia, including 10 Battle Stars, and was an honorary member of the Australian Air Force. He always regarded his time in the military as the most adventurous of his life. After his discharge, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, the first of his extended family to graduate from college. He joined the West Bend Company of West Bend, WI, where he met his wife of 63 years, Lucille (Weyres) and they became the joyful and loving parents of four children. When work kept him on the road for extended periods, they made the decision to give up what most would consider a highly successful career in exchange for time with family. Returning to the Pittsburgh area, they lived in Hampton Township for the 22 years of his career as an independent sales representative for promotional and marketing products. He always said the move was the best decision of his life, and where he received his favorite title – Dad. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his grateful children: James Schofield, Ross Twp., PA; Patricia Schofield (Stan Teague), Venice, FL; Jan Wright (John), Hunt Valley, MD; and Thomas Schofield, Moon Twp., PA. Jack and his wife have lived in the St. Pete Beach area of Florida for the past 35 years. By any measure, he was a man of deep integrity and optimism, and his success was very much of his own making. His unwavering devotion to his family is returned with all respect and love. He is the essence of what, and who, made this country great. He will be missed and his memory cherished. A private family celebration of his life is planned. David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Central Avenue Chapel in St. Petersburg is serving the family. Service Information
