Memorial

Jack Soterakis was born in New York City on October 11, 1932, to Salvatore and Eleni Galetti Soterakis. He resided at Plantation Estates, Matthews, N. C., where he passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith Soterakis, brother, Kosta Soterakis, his daughter, Alexandra Soterakis, his son, Andrew Soterakis, five grand-daughters, Amanda Wydler, Megan Wydler, Marisa, Sara and Natalie Soterakis, four step- children, Chip, Bill and Smith Long, Catherine Howard, and three step-grand children, Sam Howard, John Howard and Finley Long. Jack was a first generation American and a true patriot. Following graduation from NYU in 1953, he joined the United States Army. Following basic training, he was assigned to the Medical Depot at Fontainebleau, France where he served until August 15, 1956. He was a lifelong student whose interests included world history, government, and languages. He spoke five languages. A voracious reader, when he encountered unfamiliar words, he looked them up and then wrote the meaning in the back pages of the book. His work as a management consultant for thirty years gave him the opportunity to promote numerous people who would have been overlooked due to their gender or race. His family is grateful for the outstanding care he received in the Memory Care Unit at Plantation Estates during the last two years. In honor of his memory they have requested that contributions be made to The Samaritan Fund, 733 Plantation Estates Drive, Matthews, NC, 28105. Service to be held on September 4, 2020, at Bay Pines National Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Florida.
