Jacob D. Gallegos
February 6th, 1936 - June 24th, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, JACOB D. GALLEGOS. Jacob, a lifelong resident of Chamita, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Florence B. Gallegos; grandson, Andrew Lopez; parents, Jose Dolores Gallegos and Eufemia Gallegos; sister, Olivama Martinez; brothers, Luis Gallegos and Ubaldo Gallegos. Jacob proudly served in the US Army at a young age. He retired from the County of Los Alamos after 25 years of service as a heavy equipment operator. After retirement, he led a quiet and simple life enjoying fishing, hunting, gardening, and maintaining his yard and fruit trees. He enjoyed harvesting his fruit and traveling to the surrounding communities to sell it, many times generously giving it away. He was a strong man of faith and belief in God, a hard-working man his entire life. He was loved dearly by his family and friends, as well as strangers who were drawn to him by his outgoing personality and sense of humor, always smiling and bringing a smile to others. He always looked forward to attending military breakfast every Saturday morning at the Santa Claran and socializing with his veteran friends, all of whom were very special to him. Jacob is survived by his wife of 14 years, Melinda Ida Gallegos; sister, Beatrice Maestas (Tony); children, Julie Ann Montoya (Wayne) and Lucia Lopez (Victor); stepchildren, Cindy Diaz, Luann Hernandez and Roger Guerra (Nancy); grandchildren, Danielle Faith Garcia, Ashley Lopez and Matthew Lopez; step-grandchildren, Jose Diaz, Michael Diaz, Jimmy Diaz, Isaac Diaz, Dianne Cruz, Enrique (Bucky) Hernandez, Gerardo (Dowie) Hernandez and Roger Guerra, Jr. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Vincent's Cancer Center and Ambercare Hospice for the kind and gentle care provided to Jacob in his final days. On July 12, 2019, a Memorial gathering and Life Celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Chamita Community Center in Chamita, New Mexico. Burial and ceremonial tribute will follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the caring professionals of: Riverside Funeral Home of Santa Fe 3232 Cerrillos Road (505) 395-9150
