Jacob Jenkins
September 26th, 1932 - February 8th, 2019
Jacob Frederick Jenkins was born in Ahoskie, N.C. on September 26, 1932 to Annie (Lassiter) and Godwin Jenkins. He peacefully departed this life on February 8, 2019 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. As a youngster growing up on the farm in North Carolina, he enjoyed being a typical farm boy along with many other talents and a plethora of knowledge in many subjects. He loved his mules, Blackie and Betsy. During his boyhood, Jacob was known as the mischievous one of five children. He was a prankster and kept his Mom and Dad on their toes. He was a joy to be around because he kept everyone laughing. Jacob was a graduate of C. S. Brown High School in Winton, N.C. Upon graduation from High School, he was drafted into the Army and was eventually deployed to Korea where he honorably served his country during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Army at Beale Air Force Base, Marysville, CA, he decided to make California his home. Through the years, Jacob displayed his many talents during his tenured employment with Oroville Dam in Butte County, CA, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), and subsequently retired from Chico Unified School District after 27 years of dedicated service. Best of all, Jacob was a phenomenal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Godwin Jenkins, brothers Alton Jenkins and Joseph Jordan, step-son Gregory Jones and his first wife Lavera Jenkins, mother of his children Rhonda Murray, Frederick, Joel, Leighton and Kevin Jenkins. He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved and dedicated wife Barbara of the home. He also leaves his children Fred Jenkins, Rhonda Murray, Joel Jenkins, Adrian (A.J.) Jenkins, Leighton Jenkins, Michelle Jenkins, Chelsye Jenkins, and step children George Jones, Gregory Jones ( Deceased ), Mervyn Jones, Kathy McBroom, Carlos Jones, Michael Jones, Tony Jones multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren, three sisters, Marian Walker (Paul) of Petersburg, VA, Edna Williams of Waldorf, MD, Crystal Briggs of Raleigh, NC and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Jacob was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to our large family. He has been a major presence in all of our lives. He will be greatly missed by his family and extended family and numerous friends. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in Heaven watching over us. Broken Chain by Ron Tranmer We little knew that morning God was to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone. For part of us went with you The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.
