Jacque Westbrook
February 5th, 1933 - February 26th, 2017
Mrs. Jacque Westbrook, of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017. She was born in Charlotte on February 5, 1933, to the late James Robert and Mable O'Shields Carroll. She was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1951. A charter member of Chantilly Baptist Church, which grew to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews was her final church home. Jacque worked in accounting at Allison-Erwin Company and later at Wachovia Bank. Her accounting skills were also applied in her father's business, Carroll Aligning Service. She embarked on the most rewarding role of her career in 1961 when her first child was born. In 1953, Jacque met Carl on a blind date. They ended up together because they were the tallest in the group. After his military service in Korea, Carl returned to the States and the two married in November 1955. Their 61 years of marriage were Christ-centered and filled with the joy that comes from being with the love of your life. Jacque was the consummate nurturer. In addition to being a devoted daughter and sister, her great concern for others and her ability to discern others needs and to care for them was unmatched. She buoyed those around her. Her generosity, thoughtfulness and attentiveness were felt by friends, family and beyond. An ace at positive first impressions, Jacque was (and is) adored by many. One of her most beautiful traits was her genuine interest in other people. She enjoyed learning what their lives entailed and loved hearing their stories. She was energized by her grandchildren and was committed to their well-being and growth. Jacque Westbrook was beautiful, witty, kind, silly, caring and was driven by faith and love. Her passion for needlework, particularly cross-stitch, and her attention to detail were evident in the masterpieces she created. Over the years she used her skills to sew clothes, dance costumes for her daughter and countless Scout badges on her son's uniform. Jacque is survived by her husband, Carl Ray Westbrook; two beloved children, Scott Westbrook and his wife Janet of Stanfield, NC, and Crista Toler and her husband Richard of Charlotte; and three beautiful grandchildren, Bethany Westbrook and Nathan Westbrook of Stanfield and Brody Toler of Charlotte. The family will receive friends at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28293, on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. A service in celebration of Jacque's life will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Hankins & Whittington. Interment will follow the service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5400 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.
