Jacquelyn Veta Holmes

Jacquelyn Veta Holmes, 64, of Ilfeld, New Mexico, passed away at her home on January 11, 2019, of metastatic lung cancer. Jackie was born to the late Dorothy Davis (nee Cooper) and David Brame on March 6, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey. She graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ, in 1972 and received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rutgers University in 1976. She married Kerry Holmes in 1984, and they lived together joyously in Ilfeld, New Mexico. Jackie and Kerry were well-loved and very active members of the New Mexico live music scene from the 1980s to the early 2010s, most recently with their band AZA. Together they devotedly raised one daughter. Jackie is survived by her loving husband, Kerry Holmes, her daughter, Santana Holmes-Whittenhall (Nathaniel Whittenhall), and her grandson, Emmett Holmes. She also leaves to cherish her memory three siblings: Nabilah Abdullah, Deborah Monroe (Leary Monroe), and Ray Brame (Cheryl Parks). She is also survived by her stepfather, Neil Davis, her mother-in-law, Ruby Holmes, and many other cherished family members and friends. Her family remembers her as an intelligent, resourceful, and kind individual who brought light and laughter into every room with her. Jackie was on medical leave from her position as the Investigator/Compliance Officer with the State of New Mexico Board of Examiners for Architects at the time of her passing. Jackie's family is planning a celebration concert in her memory this Summer.
