We are saddened to announce that Jakob (Jake) Neal Rumsey of Meridian, Idaho completed his journey in this life and returned to his Heavenly Father on September 24, 2024, two months short of his 20th birthday. He was the beloved son, brother, cousin, nephew and grandson to a devasted family. We mourn his loss, but will remember him for the way he lived, and for the profound impact he had on all those who knew him.

Jake graduated from Meridian High School and took an active role in track and field. He was studying electrical engineering at Boise State University and particularly enjoyed and excelled in math. Jake always strove to be the best, not for pride or bragging rights but rather to help and serve others. He often helped and tutored others who struggled with those things that seemingly came easy to him.

Jake was a quick study, avid gamer and young at heart. When among those close to him, his goofiness would shine through. He always enjoyed the company of his brothers, cousins and friends. Put them in an Escape Room or on the Pickleball Court and watch out. He would be passionate figuring the way out or deliver a wicked serve. Wherever Jake was, you knew he was there. He always possessed a quiet commanding presence.

Perhaps most enduring, however, was his clever and creative way of serving others. He had an innate sense of what those around him needed and wanted. This often manifested itself in a witty remark or a clever and meaningful gift. He understood and cared for those around him. He most often was quiet and reserved, making you wonder what was on his mind. But when he spoke, he generally left no doubt. He could be direct, but not blunt; helpful not hurtful, meaningful not menacing. Jake was an insightful and caring young man.

Jake’s greatest joy was with his family, particularly when they came together to play board games. He learned how to work hard with his dad, how to care for and confide in others with his mom, and how to be a friend, teacher and leader with his brothers and cousins. This will be his legacy.

Jake’s memory lives on with a grieving family; his parents, Neal and Andrea; his brothers, Jedd and Drew; his grandparents; Doyle and Marcia Rumsey of Shelley, Idaho, and Curtis and Paula Young of Boise, Idaho, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jake’s funeral service will be held this Saturday, October 5th at 11:00 am in the LDS chapel at 1695 E Amity Road, Meridian. A public viewing will precede the funeral services in the same location at 10:00 am. Everyone is welcome to join our family in honoring his life and memory.
