James "Jim" Barca

Barca, James Joseph 67, of Pinellas Park, succumbed to cancer on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in New London, CT, He came here in 1947 with his parents Mariano and Angeline Curzio Barca. He retired as Manager of Administration Services and Emergency Management from the city of St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue Department after 24 years of City service. He is a 1962 graduate of St. Petersburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. Jim worked for IBM (NASA) on the Apollo/Saturn moon launches. He received a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering from The University of Central Florida in 1972 and later worked for Honeywell Corporation in St. Petersburg. He is listed in the Who's Who of Southeast and America. Jim was a member of the Pinellas County Genealogy Society. He enjoyed working with computers, photography and music. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Janet (Shields) Barca; a brother, Jack J. Barca of E. Falmouth, MA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be memorial service on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2pm with a reception to follow; both at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution be made to the Salvation Army, 6015 66th St. N., St. Petersburg, FL, 33709 or the American Cancer Society, 4801 86th Ave. N., Pinellas Park, FL 33782.
