James Elmer Beatty, Jr., 68, of Tucson, passed away on November 5, 2018 in his sleep while enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, hunting. He was born on September 13, 1950 to James and Annie Marilyn (Madden) Beatty in Hattiesburg, MS. James served proudly as a sniper in the United States Marine Corps from August 1968 through August 1971 with the rank of Sergeant. He received 2 Purple Hearts while serving in the Vietnam War. James worked as a Crusher Maintenance Supervisor for over 30 years, retiring from Freeport-McMoRan in January 2009. On June 9, 1989 he married Betty and became a dad to a son and two daughters. James was a source of strength, compassion, guidance and never-ending stories to so many. James is survived by his loving spouse of 29 years Betty; his children Jim Werts (Suzie), Amanda Zimmerman (Matt), and Amber Ford; his grandchildren Sammi, Alli, Sedona, Cassidy, Chloe, Catherine, Cadence, Haylee, Alex, Tyler and Xander; his siblings Billy Beatty (Jacque), Johnny Beatty (Alberta), Ricky Beatty (Diane), Bruce Beatty and Hope Bergstresser (Jim); and many nieces and nephews he carried close to his heart. He was preceded in death by his father James Elmer Beatty, Sr., mother Annie Marilyn, his Pops Jack, and his sister Mary Ann Brazzle. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 8:00 am - 9:00 am with a Celebration of Life at 9:00 am at Adair Avalon Chapel, Oro Valley, AZ. Burial will take place in the Southern Arizona Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Marana at promptly 11:00 am. Online condolences can be given at adairfuneralhomes.com.
