James "Jimmy" W. Bennett, Jr.
December 19th, 1961 - September 27th, 2022
James "Jimmy" W. Bennett Jr., 60, passed away peacefully in his home on September 27, 2022. He was born on Fort Jackson on December 19, 1961 to Linda Thompson Bennett and James W. Bennett, Sr. Jimmy was an adventurous outdoorsman known for hiking, hunting and his fascination with all things nature. He was a strong, intelligent man who won medals on the high school wrestling team while in Japan. As the owner of Bennett's Post Frame Construction, Jimmy constructed many buildings in and around the Columbia area. He was an amazing cook who also loved freehand drawing, in his spare time. Later in life, you could find him watching old westerns or the gamecocks (GO COCKS!). Jimmy was survived by his former wife Melanie; his daughter, Ashley and grandchild Jace; his father, Senior Master Sergeant James W. Bennett Sr. and his wife Christine; sister, Julie Bennett McCann and her husband Jeff McCann; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his younger brother, Major John K. Bennett. There will be a celebration of life for Jimmy in the Bennett Cemetery, on a later date to be determined by the family.
