James R. Bernhardt
March 7th, 1965 - November 19th, 2020
James "Jim” Richard Bernhardt, 55, passed away on Thursday November 19th, 2020. He was born March 7, 1965 to his parents LeRoy Bernhardt and Charlotte Bellais in Greeley, CO. Jim attended Windsor High School and received his Mechanics Certification from Wyoming Technical Institute in 1984. Jim grew up in the Milliken/Johnstown area where he helped on the family farm and Bernhardt Dairy. Jim’s worked at his father’s dealership- Lee’s Used Cars and took ownership of it in 1999. Jim started his own towing service, Lee’s Towing in 1992 which he ran for 23 years. Jim’s tow truck was his pride and joy and was quite talented in his line of work. You could tell his truck from the others with Taz, the Tasmanian Devil, on the hood as well as having it well lighted. He won awards for the lighting at the local tow shows. Jim towed everything from cars, to monster trucks, to airplanes and each time had fun working out the angles to get the vehicles on in one try. Jim was also a member of the Towing and Recovery Professionals of Colorado (TRPC). Aside from towing, you could find Jim at the auto auctions and other miscellaneous auctions around the area. Jim also enjoyed working on vehicles and coming up with new projects to get into. The one special thing about Jim, is that he was always helping anyone out, and everything he did was to make his family’s life as best as possible. Jim is survived by his parents LeRoy Bernhardt and Charlotte Bellais, his wife of 33 years, Lynn Bernhardt (Richardson), his daughter Elizabeth Bernhardt (Greg Buckhout), his sisters Constance Schmidt (Donald), and Carol Serna (Lee), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Daniel. Donations can be made in honor of Jim to TRPC Widow and Orphan Fund through TRCP.CO or to the Glioblastoma Foundation at Blastomafoundation.org. At his request a service will not be held but a memorial service is being planned for the spring. Condolences can be sent at www.AdamsonCares.com.
