James T. Betts, Jr., 74, passed away in Hospice care in Charlotte, NC, on Sept. 14, 2020. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN, on Dec. 26, 1945. He graduated from Elgin (IL) HS in 1963. He received a BS in Computer Science and Information Management from Roosevelt University. He married Virginia Greeley in 1976. They lived in Roselle, IL, until he was widowed in 2001. He was a cancer survivor since 2003. He endured numerous medical indignities and adaptations, sometimes gracefully, sometimes not. He thwarted many dire prognoses by telling his doctors they were wrong about him. He worked as a business analyst specializing in data management. He became an independent contractor in the field, working for dozens of financial, healthcare, transportation, and government clients in IL, TX, TN, MO, IN, and NC. He continued to work until he entered Hospice care. He was vain about his hair. In his 70s, he authored a psychological thriller/romance, A Haunting Obsession, under the pen name Anthony Morel. He was working on a sequel. He was preceded in death by his parents, James T. Betts, Sr., and Blanche B. Betts. He is survived by a sister, Bonnie (Steve) Bone; 2 nephews; 4 great nieces and nephews; 3 stepchildren, Kevin (Camille) Greeley, Sheryl (Jeb) Graham, and Eric Greeley; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Palatine, IL.
