James Ernest Board

BOARD, James E., 88, of Lutz, Florida, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012. He was born on September 14, 1923, in Simpsons, Virginia, now Check, Virginia. He was the son of the late, Dewey S. Board and Vivian Boone Board. James was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific aboard aircraft carrier Kwajalein CVE-98. He retired from Sperry Marine Systems, Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1986. Jim was a pilot and served with the Virginia Civil Air Patrol for many years before retiring to Lutz, Florida in 1988. James was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Kate H. Board, who died on December 20, 2002. He is survived by one son, James Earl Board of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Lisa and Sara Anne both of Richmond, Virginia and James Earl Board, Jr., of Charlottesville; great-granddaughter, Alison Powell; twin brothers, Curtis Wayne Board of Vashon, Washington and Dewey Layne Board of Christiansburg, Virginia; brother in law, Frank Hanks of Christiansburg, Virginia and several aunts and cousins. A grave side memorial service by the Rev. Steven Board will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery, Check, Virginia, located in Floyd County, Virginia.
