Online Obituaries for Lexington, Frankfort, and Versailles KY FRANKFORT - James Ladd Brown, 79, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, KY after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 25, 1934 in Owensboro, KY to the late James Powell and Gwenn Pullen Brown. James skipped his senior year in high school at Shawnee in Louisville to receive a 2 year Ford Foundation Scholarship to University of Louisville. He earned his degree at Kentucky Wesleyan College and earned his Rank 1 and Masters from Western KY University. James was a statistician for KWC basketball team and Publicity Director for Apollo High School's basketball team. He taught school at Livermore, Utica, Owensboro High School, Apollo High School in Owensboro, Apollo High School in Phoenix, AZ and at Ormond Beach, FL. James was the editor of the Countdown AHS newspaper named the Apollo EGals. He helped coach the Babe Ruth baseball team to the state title and helped coach the OHS baseball team in the 60's. James went on the first Friendship Force trip to Italy. He served in the Army Reserves, served as the City Parks Director in Owensboro and was the night editor at the Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro. He assisted many young men in procuring scholarships to college. He served as editor of the Ed News for the State Dept. of Education and worked in state government until his retirement. James was ordained a deacon at Buck Run Baptist Church and served as Sunday School teacher. He was a member of East Frankfort Baptist Church. He was forever a UK fan. James was married for 17 years to the absolute love of his life, Connie Brown. He became Grandpa to her grandchildren, Regan, Michael, Thomas, Parris, Lee, Haley and Jessie. In addition to his wife and grandchildren, he is survived by his stepchildren, Jerita (Donald) Colston, Angelina (Jamey) Bennett, Eric (Sherry) Bray and Daphne Criscillis, all of Frankfort; his sisters, Patti (Jay, deceased) Acquisto of Owensboro and Rebecca Barnes (Bill) Tiemann of Birmingham, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd. with Danny Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Serving as casketbearers will be Bill Tiemann, Eric Bray, Jim, Joe, John and Jason Acquisto. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1PM-4PM at the funeral home. Donations are recommended to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601, www.hospicebg.org.
