James "Pete" Burus
January 27th, 1938 - November 8th, 2023
James "Pete" Burus, 85, husband of Lutisha Burus, passed away after a long, hard battle with Parkinson's Disease on November 8, 2023 in Lexington, KY. Mr. Burus was born in Stanton, KY on January 27, 1938 to the late Fred McKinley Burus and Callie Lemon Lee Hatton Burus. He was a member of Northeast Christian Church in Lexington. Mr. Burus was a hard working man, starting his first job at age 8 driving a truck on a turkey farm. Later, his love of cars sparked his interest in being a car & truck mechanic, & he stayed in that line of work for more than 65 years, opening his own successful business in Lexington in 1991 called Burus Automotive Repair along with other lucrative business ventures. He was very talented & could fix anything. Pete would always say "I can fix anything but a broken heart (and I can fix that) but it takes a little longer". He was a great provider and loved his family with all of his heart. Helping anyone in need was very important to him. Other than his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Sandy Marie Highland (Russ) and Tina Burus Jacobs (Jeffrey), grandchildren; Matthew, Brooke, and Katie Jacobs, a sister Marcella Smallwood, brother Bobby Burus, a host of nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burus was preceded in death by his sisters Pearl Barker, Edna Mae Woolwine, and Betty Keller, and his brothers Ray, Russell, Charles, Hubert and Raymond Burus. A Celebration of Life will be held for Mr. Burus on November 21, 2023 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Clark Legacy Center, in Nicholasville, KY. Mr Burus loved wearing colorful clothing so we invite you to wear bright attire if you'd like.
