James Thomas Cameron, born in Guthrie Center, Iowa on July 10, 1931 passed away comfortably at home surrounded by his family in Loveland, Colorado on August 6, 2018. Jim was in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in San Francisco, CA where he met Bill Day, which led to the meeting of his long-time wife Elaine Day. They were married on July 17, 1954. They traveled and enjoyed boating, dancing, camping and horse racing. More than anything, they loved spending time with their family. Jim was well known as a ready mix producer and concrete contractor in the Des Moines Metro area for over 40 years. He mentored many kids from Johnston, Iowa that worked alongside of him and became prominent and well respected citizens in the community. After retiring, Jim loved volunteering his time and talents at Lake Mead National Park, as a crossing guard with Las Vegas Schools, and most recently with his daughter’s preschool classroom in Colorado. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile, humor and kindness to everyone. He has impacted this world in many different ways, with many different people. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; sister, Beth; brothers Gary and Ray (Zeke). He is survived by daughters Debra Hiatt (John), Denise Duncan (George), and son Daniel Cameron (Jan). Grandfather of Jill Cameron (Vanessa), Michael Hiatt, Elizabeth Cameron, Adam Hesseltine, Rachel Hesseltine, Sean Cameron. Great Grandfather of Olivia, Spencer, Bobby and Andrew. Reception will be at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland, Colorado on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 pm. Military Funeral Services will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa at a later date. Donations for Pathways Hospice of Loveland will be accepted in lieu of flowers.
