August 1, 2013: the grieving family of 75 year old James Patrick Campbell share the loss of their precious husband, father, and friend. He died peacefully at home after surviving five years in various states of disability from a stroke in 2008. Cremation will be provided by Daneri Mortuary, and a celebration of life gathering will be forthcoming. Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine (Lachance) of Pioneer CA; their daughter Anne M. (Campbell) Stroud, husband David, grandson Ryan of San Ramon, and granddaughter Stephanie of Pleasanton; their son, Michael James of Vacaville CA.; their son Timothy W. Campbell, his wife Gwen and grandson Liam, of La Mesa, CA; his sister Martha Rower, of San Diego, CA; brother Paul Campbell of Cherry Valley, Rob Campbell and family of Worcester Massachusetts, and was preceded in death by his brother William S. Campbell of New Hampshire. Jim enlisted in the Army in 1955, serving through 1958. He moved from Massachusetts to California that same year, was hired by the San Diego Fire Dept. and served 29 years in the fire service, retiring in 1988 as a Captain. Jim's passion was designing and building homes for sale, which he enjoyed throughout his life. Just shy of 6 ft. tall, Jim's towering and commanding presence, and endless creativity and willingness to help others cast a protective and long shadow over those he loved and befriended. In the shadow of the forest he loved, his neighbors, many of whom he had helped, formed a roadside honor guard in a final farewell as he took his last ride Home. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the widows and orphans fund at the San Diego Fireman's Relief Association: San Diego Fireman's Relief Assn. 10509 San Diego Mission Road, Suite F,San Diego, CA 92108, phone: (619) 281-0354, email: [email protected]
