Carney, James Joseph, Sr., 85, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday Feb. 27, 2000 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, he retired there as a salesman with the Jewel Tea Company in 1974. He moved here in 1993 from Lakeland, FL. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post #3538 in Struthers, Ohio. He was a member of St. Raphael?s Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Loretta; two sons: James J. Carney, Jr., Sarasota, FL; and William Carney, Columbus, Ohio; two daughters: Mary Ellen Herchik, Columbus, Ohio; and Kathleen Ridel, St. Petersburg; one sister, Evelyn McCarthy, Sanford, NC; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel, St. Petersburg.
