James "Jim" R. Carpenter
May 6th, 1938 - April 25th, 2024
Jim passed away peacefully at Arbor Valley of Cascadia in Boise, ID on April 25, 2024 with family by his side.
He was born in New Plymouth, Idaho to Russell and Charlotte (Criss) Carpenter on May 6, 1938. Jim Graduated from New Plymouth High School in 1956 and then pursued further education from Lewis-Clark Normal School, Boise Junior College, and University of Idaho. In high school, he participated in football, basketball—captain of basketball team when they won 23 consecutive games (school record), and baseball. He was also Junior class president, student body president, FFA Chapter president, FFA District VP, and State FFA president. In college, he was Freshman Class president and Fraternity Pledge Class president. He served in the US Army from 1961-1963 as a Communications Intel. He was stationed in For Ord (CA), Fort Gordon (GA), Pentagon (Washington DC), and Seoul, Korea. After the Army, Jim worked many different jobs: Banking, Insurance, Freight Brokerage, Parts Manager for 10,000-acre farm, Sears Credit Customer Service, and Self-Storage Manager in Boise, Salem, and Vancouver. Jim was also very involved in the community of Glenns Ferry. While there, he was on the Glenns Ferry City Council for 6 years, Cub Scout Pack Leader for 6 years, Supervisor for Little League Basketball program for 6 years, Planning & Zoning Commission for 3 years, Chamber of Commerce President for 2 years, and the Three Island Crossing Committee for 30 years.
His favorite activities were raising livestock, watching his sons and grandchildren, and participating in athletics. He also thoroughly enjoyed doing standup comedy. His most recent standup comedy act was at Arbor Valley of Cascadia earlier this year.
Jim was preceded in death by both of his parents, 2 sisters (Sheila and Peggy), and 1 son (Jimmy). He is survived by sons David (Lori) and Mark (Melinda), 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many extended family members, and lots of very special friends. Jim has requested that there be no services. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Association, or American Heart Association.

Our funeral home opened in 2005 when Jerry and Janette Rost purchased the business. We’ve continued to grow along with Mountain Home. Jerry’s career began more than fifty years ago in Boise, and along the way, he acquired an 1897 horse-drawn funeral carriage, which we proudly display in our facility....
