James R. Cook, 78, of Gloversville, went home to be with his savior on July 23, 2010, at Mt. Valley Hospice. Jim was born in Gloversville on May 9, 1932, the son of Zina and Lorraine Van Allen Cook. On July 4, 1953, he married the former Eleanore Berhaupt, who survives. Jim graduated Gloversville High School in 1950. Upon graduation, he went to work for General Telephone. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, and then returned to the phone company. He retired from Liberty Enterprises in 1994. Jim was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed modifying and building hot rods and could often be found among friends at classic car shows in the area. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Jim is survived by three children, John Stephanie Cook of Johnstown, Lisa Bob Penge of Mayfield, and Steve Ruthie Cook of Fonda. Nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Jim was pre-deceased by a sister, Marie Houtz of Arizona. Funeral services will be conducted 7 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, with Reverend Richard C. Klueg officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 pm, prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will take place 11 am Wednesday at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y.
