James Joseph Doheny
September 3rd, 1930 - February 2nd, 2015
Dr. James Joseph Doheny, Jr. 84 of St. Petersburg passed away peacefully February 2nd 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jude, sons and daughters: James III (Carol), Kevin (Pat), Peter (Marla), Michael, Danny (Dina), Margie (Mike), Monica (Bob), Christian (Amanda); his grandchildren James IV, Maureen, Siobhan, Kelsy, Erin, Arnie, Allie , Eli, Daniel, Bridget, Peter Jr., Rylee, Mia, Cole, Jay, Kennedy, and little Svea; and his brother John and sister Helen. He was pre-deceased by his parents James Joseph Doheny, Sr. and Mary Flynn Doheny, Aunt Mildred, wife Maureen Foley, his daughter Mary Flynn, his sons Matthew and Dennis. Born in New Haven, CT September 3rd, 1930, Jim grew up in New Haven where he attended Hopkins Day school. He achieved many honors, including captain of the baseball and basketball teams. He earned his undergraduate degree at Fairfield University where he continued his participation in varsity athletics. He went on to graduate from New York Medical College and received a Masters in Public Health from the University of Connecticut. After a long career as a General Practitioner in Derby, CT., Jim went on to hold medical administrator positions at Farrel Corporation, General Electric, and most recently, ITT Hartford Insurance. Jim and Jude moved to Isla Del Sol in 2001 where they made many friends and spent many hours pursuing their obsession with golf. His large and loving family all enjoyed their visits here and will miss him dearly. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday Feb. 3, 2015 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 1600 54th Avenue South, St. Petersburg. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 Noon in the clubhouse at Isla Del Sol Country Club, 6000 Sun Blvd. St. Petersburg. Donations in his memory would be appreciated to the ALS Association.
