James Arthur Edman

James Arthur Edman Resident of Fairfield Green Valley James Arthur Edman passed away peacefully on August 7, 2012 after a brief illness. Jim was born on March 26, 1925 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Dr. Arthur and Mrs. Gladys Edman. He spent his youth in Chisago City, Minnesota and graduated from Chisago High School in 1943 and shortly thereafter was inducted into the Army Air Corps, where he became a pilot. After the war, he attended the University of Minnesota where he received his Juris Doctor Degree from the Law School. While attending the University, he met and fell in love with Margery Hagerla. They were married on September 15,1951at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. Jim was called back into service during the Korean War where he served in the Judge Advocate's office in Merced, California, Weisbaden, Germany, London, England, and finally at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. He stayed in Fairfield and retired as a Major in the United States Air Force. Although he lived the remainder of his life in California, he always remained a small town Minnesota boy and delighted in telling stories of his childhood and loved to stay in touch with old friends from Chisago City. Jim began his Real Estate career after leaving the Air Force and was the owner of Western Realty for many years and served as President of the Solano County Board of Realtors. In 1976, he became the owner of JME Travel in Vacaville, California where he worked with his wife Marge for 28 years. Jim and Marge travelled the world with many groups of their friends, circling the globe many, many times. Jim was an avid sportsman. He loved hunting, fishing, golf and the San Francisco Giants and Forty Niners. He owned his own plane and made numerous trips to Mexico with his friends to hunt and fish. He was active in community affairs and in the Fairfield Little League where he coached his two sons, Jamie and Jeff for many years, leading Ragle's Pharmacy to Pacific Little League titles. He was a long-time member of the Community United Methodist Church and an active member of the Green Valley Country Club for 56 years. Jim was preceded in death by his son Jeff and is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margery, son Jamie and his wife Marsha, Grandchildren Corey (Mark) Meyers, Aaron (Jayne) Edman, Kristin (Jae) Brimhall, Kimberly (Tandy) Baker and 6 Great Grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held Thursday, August 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Community United Methodist Church 1875 Fairfield Ave. Fairfield, Ca. Burial will be private at the Rockville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CUMC Capital Fund, 1875 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield, Ca. 94533 or Mission Solano 740 Travis Blvd., Fairfield, Ca. 94533.
