James Louis Gentile
February 9th, 1922 - July 4th, 2017
James Louis Gentile ( "Uncle Jim" to those who knew him) passed away on July 4, 2017. He was born on Amsterdam's Southside on February 9,1922, the son of Anthony and Angelina Louzini Gentile. He attended Amsterdam public schools and graduated from Wilbur Lynch High School in 1938. He served his country during World War II as part of Patton's Third Army. He saw action in North Africa, Italy and France. On September 11, 1948 he married the one true love of his life, Yolanda Cinquanti. For pretty much the next half century they were a team completely devoted to one another. Jim was employed by several local companies including Adirondack Power & Light, Mohawk Carpets and finally by General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY. During the next 27 years he never missed a single day of work, never punched in late or punched out early, not one single time. When he retired he was a turbine operator. He loved his job and took great pride in his ability to do it well. Jim also loved to fish for trout, go to Yankee Stadium and Broadway shows always with his nephews, nieces and their friends. He read the New York Times, Field & Stream, National Geographic and the New Yorker Magazine like clockwork until his eyesight failed him. He and Yolanda were childless but they were also two of the most generous people on earth. They treated their nephews as if they were their own children and were always doing extremely nice things for friends and neighbors. When Yolanda passed away in 1995, Jim lost his life's compass. The only good thing about his passing is that he and "Onnie" will be together again, the perfect team, this time in a perfect place. In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was predeceased by three brothers, Nicholas, Theodore and John Gentile. He is survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins. A private funeral mass was conducted at St. Mary's Church and he was buried next to Onnie in St. Mary's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam NY 12010 Please visit the family's online guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com.
