August 12th, 1943 - February 17th, 2013
James 'Jim' Gilbert Grisdale Jim Grisdale passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Jim was born August 12, 1943 to the late Gilbert Brown Grisdale and Teresa Monahan Grisdale. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Grisdale; brother, Joseph 'Buddy' Grisdale. Jim, a native Charlottean, graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School, class of 1961, lettering in baseball, basketball and football. He earned a baseball scholarship to Wingate College and played on their collegiate world series team and went on to finish his collegiate career at Belmont Abbey College. Jim retired from Allstate Insurance Company after 30 years and in retirement, loved spending time with his six grandchildren. He was an avid NC State fan, but his true passion in life was his family. He had a quick wit and loved to make people laugh. To all that knew him he was a man of selfless giving and generosity. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Grisdale is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Doneata Grisdale, of Charlotte; three daughters, Janet (Michael) Applegate of Charlotte, Julie (Tracy) Moore of Winston-Salem, NC, Jeana (Edward) Sheehan of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Meredith Brown and Patrick James Applegate, Hannah Irene and Sarah Elizabeth Moore, Teresa 'Reese' Frances and Liam James Sheehan; sisters, Anne (Harry) Lawing, Terri Edwards; sister in law, Ginny Grisdale; niece, Jennifer Davis; nephews, Brian Edwards, John and Randy Hess; and many beloved extended family members. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 507 S. Tryon, Charlotte, NC 28202. Inurnment will be held in the church columbarium immediately following the service. The family will receive friends following the inurnment in St. Peter's Biss Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Angels, 6600 Wilkinson Blvd., Belmont, NC 28012 or St. Peter's Catholic Church.
