James Paul Herbison

James Paul Herbison, 66, passed away October 2, 2016 at home in Olympia, Washington, after battling cancer. He was born June 22, 1950 to Loren and Audrey Herbison in Ventura, California. He grew up in Ventura County, graduating high school in 1968. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Julia A. Strench. They moved to Olympia in 1973, where they were married August 10, 1974. Jim worked as a skilled auto body repair specialist from 1969 to 2014. He was a master of fabrication and a perfectionist. If he could not find the right tool for a project, he would make it. In his later years, he enjoyed customizing his Harley Davidson motorcycle, target shooting, and working on his home and yard. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and watching his grandson become a young adult. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed water skiing on Capitol Lake, scuba diving in Neah Bay and the Puget Sound, salmon fishing, and golfing. Jim was a kind-hearted, private-natured, hard-working man. He lived his life with authenticity and integrity. He was always willing to help a friend in need. No matter where he went or what he did there, he always left it better than he found it. Jim was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Julia Herbison of Olympia; son, Aaron Herbison of Olympia; daughter, Noelani Whyte, her husband, Kevin Whyte, and their son, Jacob Whyte of Olympia; his mother, Audrey Herbison of Oak View, California; brother, Roger Herbison of Oak View, California; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
