Amsterdam, NY James Herrick, 48, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away peacefully November 1st at Memorial Regional So. Hospice Inn in Hollywood after a long illness. He was in the loving company of his family. Born in Niskayuna, NY on Aug. 15, 1966 the son of Melvin Herrick and the former Monie Slezak. He was a 1984 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. James received his associates degree from Hudson Valley Community College, and later a BS degree from SUNY Brockport in 1998. He moved to Florida and was a drug and alcohol counselor since 2001 until the onset of his illness. During his youth, he worked summers as a counselor at Camp Fowler in the Adirondacks. James enjoyed the Saratoga Racetrack in the summer, where he was employed during the season. He leaves his parents, mother Monie (Robert) Peeke of Amsterdam; father Melvin (Nancy) Herrick of Hagaman; brother Michael (Amy) Herrick of Ayer Mass., sister Christie Herrick (Michael Guisti) of Amsterdam and his beloved dog Lenny. He was the proud uncle of Bella and Bryce Herrick and Mikey Guisti. Aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Services are Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 9:30am to 11:00 am prior to the service. Memorials may be made in his name to the Abandoned Pet Rescue, 1137 NE 9th Ave. Fort Lauderdale 33304.
