Mr. James C. Hornbeck, age 67, was raised to meet God September 6, 2012 at his home at Mountain Lake following a brief illness with his beloved wife Susan of 38 years and his loving family at his side. He was born September 15, 1944 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Clifford and Betty Scheesler Hornbeck of Fort Hunter. He was a 1962 graduate of Wulbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam and served in the US Marine Corps. Jim was the devoted father of Michael Hornbeck Jolene of Fultonville, Jacey Dorman Mike of Gloversville and Daniel Hornbeck Megan of Gloversville; loving grandfather of Michaela Hornbeck, Michael Hornbeck, Adrian Dorman, Dominic Dorman and Angelica Dorman. He loved softball and was a pitcher for many years from the 1960's through the 1980's. Jim retired from his lifelong career as an oil truck driver in 2009 and was so happy to be able to spend his retirement at Mountain Lake, NY and to pursue his favorite sport of bowling, achieving a 300 game in April, 2012. Jim's other passions in life were hunting, fishing, gardening and unfailingly a totally devoted New England Patriots fan since the franchise began. He was also a lover of animals. He was a member of the board of the Mountain Lake Camper's Association and was the Arterial lanes Children's bowling coach for the past ten years. Jim's smile and sense of humor will be held in our hearts forever. A family condolence hour will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 11 at the Mayfield United Methodist Church where a memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Oliver officiating. Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Mayfield United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 203, Mayfield, NY 12117 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
